super nap

Last night's nap prior to going out later turned into super sleep. (I needed super sleep but didn't realize that until today.) It wasn't that anything bad had happened just timing didn't end up as planned so plans were scapped. I am a firm believer in naps. Naps are good. Some people really could use a nap. If you think of it in terms of toddlers, they get cranky when they need sleep. As adults we forget this, while still getting crabby, and keep pushing on.

This all said I should be in bed now. The joys of the internet once again sucked me in with the glowing goodness and here I am trying to wind down. The Mt Dew and Hershey bar could also be to blame. Same with the last episode of Grey's Anatomy which was streamed online tonight.

That, however, led to knitting which is also good. I got to the point of the dropped stitch, picked that up, and went happily on my way. It's looking quite nice and I forsee myself making more in the future just with a better timeframe/plan.

Blame it on the rain....

Now that I have a certain generation of people with Milli Vanilli stuck in their heads....

The hubby and I had a grand plan for today. After I was done with an errand, we were going to work on that large outside area known as the yard. Known as being the key element since it is in progress/needs work. The people who lived here didn't just have a green thumb, they had a green arm, and clearly more time. While he has more time that I do now, it's the weather that is toying with us. Today it is raining and likes to start/stop just when you want to do something. Realistically though with a squishy yard and the possibility of being outside and somewhat damp, it all goes on the back burner again. We are definitely working to get it better before the dogs decide to tear it up from running in circles and in circles and in circles. Too bad they don't get themselves dizzy because then they'd just stop.

Our neighborhood welcomed this Saturday with the Little League baseball parade. I heard a marching band from our house and had a feeling something was starting at the park nearby. Sure enough there is the local high school marching band leading a string of local town vehicles - fire, police, etc - and misc parent's vehicles with streamers blowing, and kids yelling. It's cute and loud. The neighborhood kids were excited too. I was just like them as a kid, standing at the curb with a plastic bag in my hand awaiting the candy that they were throwing.

More 80s discussions reminded me of an old toy I used to have - Fashion Plates. (http://www.retroland.com/pages/retropedia/toys/item/2585/) I'll be moving some boxes from my parent's attic in the near future and it has me wondering if they are in there. I know there'll be at least one thing to sell at the garage sale this summer.

Speaking of garage sales, there is one this sat/sunday about 4 1/2 blocks from me. I'd hate to be them stuck trying to keep stuff dry.

One thing that is consistent is that I am not consistent

I had noticed last week's Ten for Tuesday '10 Signs that You're Getting Older' and it is somewhat fitting lately.

1. Things/events are dated in years more than 5 - Kurt Cobain has been gone 15 years. My So-Called Life first aired 15 years ago. NIN's Pretty Hate Machine will be 20 yrs old this year. It's slightly unnerving at times with that wait waaaaaaaht? element that kicks in.

2. My unoffical kid brother - the BF's kid brother - is no longer a munchkin. While I know he isn't the same little kid who would kick open closet doors to chuck shoes at our heads or whine til he got a nap and hasn't been for a long time but still.

3. Sliders is all on instant play on Netflix as well as other 90s television. A win win situation since I haven't seen stuff in ages.

4. Cartoons like Captain N: The Game Master is much more cheesy than I remember.

5. The Karate Kid is no longer the cool older kid. He's a kid w a headband stuck painting a fence.

6. 80's is considered retro. THIS will take a long time to get used to and I don't even want to think of when it's the new oldies. Can you really ever think of bands like Wham! as oldies???

7. 80's fashion is a been there, done that, and will be selective in what to bring back in my attire. Living through the neon spandex age once was scary enough.

8. The word reunion isn't just a word but a fact. It's coming this summer.

9. I am part of the unlabled wives/future wives club in my circle of friends. While I know people who married straight out of high school none of us were part of that.

10. Boys are willing to give up a seat on the L out of respect rather than as a way to hit on you. The "ma'am" added totally gave that away not that I'm looking for someone to hit on my on public transportation.

Speaking of public transportation, it seems like there has been a lull in the crazy instances of smushing each other in a car. If you really think of it, the entire thing can be quite terrifying. You are stuffed with a bunch of strangers in a giant metal can with doors that they specifically say not to lean up against so you don't/possibly don't fall out being shot down a metal track that often causes sparks to fall to the street below. It sounds like something out of a B-horror movie if you take it out of context. Taking it, though, as long as I can remember takes the EEEEEK out of it somewhat. When the thing stops though on a sliggggggggght angle that is still unnerving.

I have finished frogging the portion of the blanket now where the dropped stitch was located. I'm just really glad I found it before I got to the end of the skein. It took some time to go back to where I needed to be to fix it. Part of that was spent watching...err talking through is a better phrasing, The Crow: Wicked Prayer aka Crow 4 aka are you serious with this dialogue??? with Nixmusic.

She is making those things that you put on your feet. Those things that you make with the needles with TWO pointy ends. SOCKS. I think socks are like the popcorn someone makes in an office. You smell it, in this case see it and you want it. I'm seriously needing to keep my hands off any sock patterns since I have this WIP to finish + two scaves on cue. Finding my stitch counter will help with that.

I never realized how much of an impact a little plastic barrel going missing can have on the knitting psyche. it totally cuts down knitting time since it's less time consuming than stopping to make a hatch mark on a piece of paper/subscription insert from a magazine/cover of a magazine.

While I do intend to start up the 365 again, I've decided to wait a bit longer til the house is more in order in terms of to-do projects and whatnot. Taking a picture only to discover it's ruined by the giant pile of crap/boxes/etc is not fun. I know getting it in gear is something I need to do. I just am not one for being all gung-ho in organizing stuff that I don't know if I should keep or donate. L is having a garage sale this summer so I know that will be motivation as well.

I just finished Mayhem in High Heels by Gemma Halliday. It was really cute. There are a few others in the High Heels series before this one and I am planning to read those as well. I was never the big myserty person but lately I've found myself reading more of them. Perhaps it's the mesh of a more chick lit humorous style in some of the more contemporary ones. Nonetheless, it helps pass the time on public transportation when my eyes are either too tired to knit or I don't have enough room to comfortably do so without doing my bad interpretation of the Chicken Dance.

Speaking of which I HATE the Chicken Dance. Yuck!

Freebie Freebie

I've starting finding random freebies and coupons online. I figured why not. Plus when I find munchkin stuff I can fwd it to M for Turnip (who is getting so big at 4 months. She already likes Led Zep and cries at Radiohead though the cry may have been for a bottle. We'll see when she's not hungry.)

The free samples list so far:

Nicoderm patch + $7 off coupon - for Mr MBMY when he goes back to trying to quit

Crestwhite strip - one top/bottom = fast teeth brighten when needed

Kotex - tampons, pads in creepy present box.

I signed up for more stuff so lets see what else comes soon.

PLUS my Fitness mag should be starting soon. I got SELF as well. Just need to pay that bill. :)

Frogging a Cosby sweater... well not quite

I have had only one experience frogging a premade sweater. It was royal blue cotton that ended up not working well. That ended up being a good thing once I realized that a good portion of it was stained and so would be the yarn.

I'm not discourage and now, esp w the thought of buying wool yarn right now is not practical - stupid state of the ecomony causing tons of layoffs incl hitting the MBMY household. A and I had a girls' day out and went thrifting on Saturday which is always fun though having a plan is even better than finding the late 80s/early 90s fushia prom dress by chance. I ended up finding some nice wool or wool blend sweaters with the most expensive being $2. (It would probably be a good 3x that for just one skein. I haven't gotten too too too into buying merino but from what I've heard it's not cheap.) They all look like the seams will come apart pretty easily esp since one is already. The black one has flat black buttons coming up the sleeves a good 4 inches from the wrists that are in good condition as well.

If this all goes well then I will be adding a yarn counter to the ball winder on my knitting related wish list.

Overall it's a good thing, recycling, reusing, economical. Plus I want to do before/after pix of what it was and what it become. Also then I can make some wacky stuff like felted cat beds - though I think they will still velcro themselves to my large afghan. I swear they get mad when I want to use it sometimes.

I'm thinking of starting up the 365 again, or rather restart. With the winter funk leading to the plague of a cold that I had and took forever to get rid of, the stress of the layoff and everything else, the thought of taking a picture of myself daily didn't seem that important. Plus the dark circles under my eyes were not what I had wanted to remember and document. I have some ideas for photos to add and an idea or two for a clones shot which I always enjoy seeing people do.

I didn't get a chance to really start talking to anyone in the group which I regret. I know it was just a short time that I posted in it but some of the people in it look really interesting and their work is just plain amazing. I find it inspirational when I see other peoples art/handiwork etc.
